ZWO AM5N Strain Wave Equatorial Mount
The ZWO AM5N mount leverages advanced strain wave gear technology to deliver precise tracking in a remarkably lightweight package. Unlike traditional mounts that use worm gears, the AM5N's strain wave gears allow it to operate without counterweights for payloads up to 33 lbs (15 kg). This feature makes it incredibly convenient for backyard astronomy or travel, easily fitting into carry-on luggage. For heavier setups, the payload capacity extends to 44 lbs (20 kg) with the addition of counterweights and a counterweight shaft, available separately.
Strain wave drive mounts have the advantage of zero backlash, a common issue with traditional worm gear mounts. Although they can experience some periodic error, the AM5N keeps this to less than ±10 arcseconds, a significant improvement over its predecessor. Each mount includes an inspection certificate for verification. When autoguiding, the AM5N achieves impressive accuracy, ranging from 0.5 to 0.8 arcseconds.
Lightweight Yet Powerful
The ZWO AM5N mount head weighs just 12 lbs (5.5 kg), making it perfect for transport to remote dark sky sites. It comes with a premium soft-shell case for added protection. Despite its low weight, the AM 5 N supports up to 28 lbs (13 kg) without counterweights, accommodating medium refractors and large SCTs. For larger telescopes, the payload capacity increases to 44 lbs (20 kg) with additional counterweights, making the AM5N a versatile solution for both lightweight travel setups and robust home observatories. Note that the maximum counterweight allowed is 11 lbs (5 kg).
Versatile Mount Operation
With a latitude range of 0-90 degrees, the ZWO AM 5N supports both equatorial and alt-azimuth modes. This versatility is beneficial for both astrophotography and visual observation, enabling imaging from any location on Earth, including the equator and poles.
Wireless Control and ASIAIR Integration
The AM5N offers full wireless control through your phone or tablet using the ASI Mount app, available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. The included hand controller acts as a Wi-Fi bridge, connecting your device to the mount. Additionally, the AM5N integrates seamlessly with the ZWO ASIAIR, allowing comprehensive control of the mount, ZWO cameras, filter wheels, guide cameras, and EAF via the ZWO ASIAIR App.
Convenient Hand Controller
The included rocker-style hand controller enables manual pointing of the mount and serves as the Wi-Fi bridge for wireless operation and firmware updates.
ZWO TC40 Carbon Fiber Tripod
The ZWO TC40 Carbon Fiber Tripod is an ideal companion for the AM5N. Weighing just 5 lbs (2.3 kg), it supports loads up to 110 lbs (50 kg), ensuring a secure and portable setup for your gear. Additional specifications are available on the ZWO TC40 product page.
